Eurasian Economic Commission grants Cuba observer status

At the meeting of their Council on October 30, of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) has decided to grant the Republic of Cuba the status of observer. With its decision the Commission confirmed the decision of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council. The process will be completed by the heads of state of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) when they meet later this year.

The decision follows a Cuban expression of interest in the work of the EAEU, and consultations to clarify technical issues and further prospects for cooperation.

On September 24, a delegation from the Republic of Cuba, headed by Deputy Prime Minister Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz, visited the EEC. During joint consultations, the deputy foreign ministers of the EAEU member states declared their unconditional support for the Cuban initiative of the Cuban side. As Sergei Glazyev noted: "The Union countries are already interacting with Cuba within the framework of a memorandum signed in 2018. But there is a great mutual desire to increase cooperation".
